[ARCHIVED] Employment Opportunity: Full-Time Summer Program Counselor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·                 Responsible for the supervision, safety and accident prevention of all program participants

·                 Teaches and leads games, activities and camp special events

·                 Responsible for the maintenance of and record keeping for the facility, supplies and equipment

·                 Responsible for the distribution of all informational notices and calendars and in communication of program events, activities and concerns to participants and parents

·                 Counselors are required to take attendance, complete accident and incident forms as necessary and to inform their supervisors of any issues or concerns that may require immediate attention

·                 Acts as a liaison between the Recreation Department, campers and parents

·                 Must adhere to all guidelines outlined in the staff manual


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other related duties as requested. 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Prior experience working with children is encouraged

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·                 Good organizational skills are required

·                 Knowledge, abilities and experience in one or more of the following areas are required: special events, arts and crafts, sports, games and working with school aged youth

 

·                 Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing

 

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION

·         All applicants must pass CPR/AED training as well as First Aid

·                 All applicants aged 18 and older are required to pass a criminal background check

·                 All applicants under the age of 18 are required to provide 3 references who are over 18

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Miscellaneous sports, recreation and playground equipment necessary to complete tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, speak see and hear. Employee must occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop or crouch and participate in a variety of physically vigorous activities. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Work is performed in an outdoor setting, with a variety of other locations which vary by program and scheduled activities.  The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
