Please be advised that, effective today, September 22, 2025, the State of New Hampshire, by proclamation of the Governor and Council, has prohibited all open fires—including campfires and the burning of brush—as well as smoking in and near woodlands.
This ban is expected to remain in effect well into the fall season.
Exception: Campgrounds are permitted to continue open burning only with Category 1 fire permits, provided they meet the conditions outlined in the attached letter from Steven Sherman, Chief of the NH Forest Protection Bureau. All campgrounds in town have been contacted and provided with instructions and the necessary conditions should they choose to allow open burning under this exemption.
