1. How do I report a missing road sign or other road signage i.e. Stop sign, Speed Limit sign or roadway layout notification sign?

Contact the Highway Department at 253-7445 or the Police Department dispatch at 476-2400 by phone or you can fill out the Work Request.

2. Does the Highway Department plow and sand private roads?

Yes, private roads which have been approved as Emergency Lanes and inspected by the Public Works Department to meet the Town of Moultonborough Subdivision Standards for roads, and serve 2 or more residences may be plowed by Highway Department Staff of subcontractors employed by the town.  See the list of declared Emergency Lanes (PDF).

3. Can I get sand for my private driveway?

Yes, the highway department maintains an area adjacent to the large sand pile reserve for residents to pick up.

4. How do I report a pot hole or road surface condition which is in need of repair?

Contact the Highway Department at 253-7445 or the Police Department dispatch 476-2400.

5. What if I find a road hazard / emergency i.e. tree down, lane obstruction by debris or snow drift or slippery road conditions?

Contact the Police Department dispatch at 476-2400; they will contact the Road Agent or his staff to respond.

6. Can I get wood chips from the stockpile at the highway facility?

Yes, just like the winter sand, you may load your own from the pile.

7. Does the highway department plow private driveways?

No, the Highway department stopped plowing private driveways in the late 1980s.

8. How do I get a driveway permit?

A driveway permit is issued by the Road Agent, and can be picked up at the Town Offices.

9. What is the procedure to excavate within the Town’s roadway right-of-way?

An excavation permit is required and issued by the Road Agent. The excavation permit is subject to a fee, and project inspections which also have a fee associated. The excavation permit is available at the Town Office, Land Use Office.

10. Why is there a gate closing the Highway Garage?

To minimize risk exposure, and to deter theft and vandalism.

11. What types of risks are there?

The highway department stock piles several types of aggregates, and these piles are high subsequently making them a risk of injury or death from side-slope slides when climbed upon or digging by hand improperly.

12. How are we going to get winter sand now?

There will be a fresh pile maintained outside the gate for residents to pick up sand for their home use.

13. Can we still get wood chips now that there is a gate?

We will still have a small pile of wood chips for residents to pick up.

14. Can we get gravel for our driveways or roads?

No, unfortunately the gravel stock piled at the facility are purchased for use on "Town" roads or facilities.
